Wooden beds cover everything from painted pine for a child’s room to solid oak for a main bedroom, and the choice usually comes down to how the frame will be treated. A painted finish looks crisp and hides the timber beneath, but chips show; a natural or oiled finish marks less obviously and can be sanded back years later.Slat type matters too – sprung slats flex slightly and soften a firm mattress, solid slats give an even platform that suits memory foam.
